About Us
Stuart is a motivated social entrepreneur with a passion for leadership development. Stuart holds an Economics Degree from the University of Cape Town, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of South Africa and several postgraduate qualifications in Organisation & Management.
With over 20 years of fundraising and community development experience, and a proficiency in English, Afrikaans and Xhosa, Stuart is well equipped to take on the development sector. As well as being Director of Special Projects for SASDI, Stuart is also a lecturer at the University of Cape Town in the School of Management. Stuart also serves on the Boards of several NGO’s including: The Homestead – Projects for Street Children and EarthLife Africa.
Jean is a creative and driven individual who is committed to the development of South Africa and its people. Having completed her studies which included a BA in International Relations & English Literature (Wits) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Enterprise Management (UCT), Jean was on the look out for a new challenge and SASDI was just the right fit. She has gained community experience through her work previously, at Rene le Lono Community Centre in Soweto and has thrown herself wholeheartedly into the dynamic Cape Town development sector. As well as her work with SASDI, she also sits on the board of NGO EarthLife Africa.
Simmy studied a BA in Law & Industrial Psychology (Wits) as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Enterprise Management (UCT) before she began for SASDI. Simmy is hard working and innovative and has a real passion for community. She has worked on various community development projects since she was 17 and won an award for her effort and dedication in teaching underprivileged children in Yeoville, Johannesburg. She is also on the board of NGO EarthLife Africa. She is well travelled and determined to ensure that her projects really do make a sustainable difference.
Cordelia has a big heart for community and believes strongly in people taking charge of their own destiny. She has done courses in community development (UCT) project management (Cape Tech) and computers and is very well connected in the township communities, having worked from 2004-2008 with Habitat for Humanity as a community developer. She also has a sound knowledge of construction. She is hungry to work and is passionate about getting people in the poorer communities to get involved and do projects for themselves and their community, as she says "There is a lot to do!".
Gerald Jacobs is the Project Coordinator for an exciting new partnership between SASDI and Innovaid South Africa. For the last 7 years, Gerald worked as a Coordinator for The Homestead (Projects for Street Children) where he was involved in the Early Intervention Centre (Yizani Drop in Centre) and the street outreach work. Gerald’s areas of expertise are: community development, social work, social welfare law, counseling and family work. He is passionate about the development of street children post-18 and sits on the boards of two UK charities that tackle this issue in Cape Town. His work with the community, especially the homeless, was recognized by Nelson Mandela and his foundation in 2006 and he has also been part of the administration of the South African Homeless World Team since this time.
